I would like to show about how best we can utilize our English skills by learning more vocabulary. When I came here, I bought a book about the Second World War. The book is very thick and has too many new words for me. While I started reading, I could only read 5 pages per half an hour. However, I had never been frustrated. Whereas, I worked hard on it and learned 10 new words from it every day. Subsequently, I can probably read 12 pages per half an hour. On the other hand, the vocabulary can also help me in different aspects. Whenever I read a newspaper, a magazine or other books, they help me to understand more about the context. In addition, they also work when I write. They enable me to write in various ways for the same meaning and provide me with more word choices to write accurately. So my essay is generally improved. In my opinion, my reading and writing improvement are partly from the extension of my vocabulary.
With the development of science and technology, communication among people from different countries and different cultures is more frequent and important. Our world is multicultural. When we communicate with people from another culture, we are not only affected by the difference of language, but also disturbed by the difference of culture. To ensure a successful understanding and communication, we should pay attention to politeness, one of the most universal phenomena in intercultural communication. Politeness is a very important part of every national culture. When we communicate with others, we should be polite. Polite and proper form of language helps to establish and maintain harmonious social relationships. It may lead to pragmatic failure when people from different cultures use polite forms to communicate with each other. English is Chinese students’ foreign language, and we are not very familiar with its language rules. When we make some grammatical errors, it’s easy to be found. And it’s also could be forgiven, because we are “foreigners” to English. If we can speak English fluently, but we don’t pay attention to the context and speak English improperly, we will be considered to be impolite, and then it will break the atmosphere of the whole communication. Therefore, it is necessary and important to study pragmatic failure in politeness language.

This paper makes an analysis of the cultural difference of politeness language in intercultural communication according to an investigation of Freshmen English Majors’ Cross-Cultural Pragmatic Competence in Politeness, on the basis of some theories. And it also proposes some suggestions on how to improve students’ pragmatic competence.
Why Character is Important
Character in life is what makes people believe in you and is essential both for individual success and for our society to function successfully. Each individual must do his or her part every day by living a life of integrity.
Integrity is adhering to a moral code of honesty, courage, strength and truthfulness – being true to your word. When you don’t exhibit integrity, other people get hurt. But you hurt yourself even more.
When you cheat, your “success” is false. When you break a promise, you are showing that your word is meaningless. When you lie, you deceive others and lose their respect.
All of those examples destroy your reputation and break the trust others have in you. Without your good reputation and trustworthiness, your relationships fail.

Everyone has their own personality, temperament and lively, outgoing; some to be scanty of words, since Bi, character will affect our health to a great extent, so have a good character is very important! Good personality can make people healthy, happy to spend every day! Bad character can let us more physical and mental fatigue. Character formation and development in the growth, is not innate, for us, good character, for example, cheerful, confident and outgoing, can let us do things more smoothly, to make their life more brilliant sunshine!
