Review on Bodyguards and Assassins
was thoroughly, deeply, and magnificently entertained for the film's entire running time, and for that I am eternally grateful.

The plot is rather transparent, and even predictable, but only in the best kind of way. In its defense, the plot should be straightforward, since there's (thankfully) no espionage subplot/distraction that leads to narrative machinations. A group of essentially everyday people must protect Sun Yat Sen from assassins while he visits Hong Kong.

The film is also didactic, but you know that from the first frame. And for this film, it works, because it is an integral plot point. How can you make a movie about political turmoil in China and not be somewhat didactic? Refreshingly, the film is not one-sidedly didactic. In all honesty, I am surprised that the film's sympathies lay where they do, politically speaking. Because some of the conflicts in the film are still going on today.

From the start of the film, you know that these conflicts, personal, political and otherwise, must go from discussion to confrontation. At some point, people will stop talking and start fighting. By the time it starts, you can hardly wait, if only because you knew it was inevitable.

But the first half of the film is hardly wasted.

Bodyguards and Assassins/十月围城 sets up a premise and works towards it by giving each of the film's many characters shape, detail, and humanity. So when the story inevitably goes where you know it would, you have such emotional investment in the characters that the events are still very affecting. This movie is an ensemble piece, and a very evenly split one at that.

No one dominates the film, and at the same time, it is still cohesive and engaging. There are lots of cameos and small parts played by very well-known names, and its nice to see that kind of selflessness. Lots of familiar faces (and some new ones) turn in commendable performances.

Tony Leung Kar Fai shows a degree of subtlety in his character that we haven't seen from him in a while (given his recent roles) and turns in a very consistent and convincing performance

Today, there is an interesting thing at my home.Today is Sunday, so my father doesn’t go to work.After lunch, my father goes to sleep and I feel a little bit bore.Suddenly, an interesting idea comes to my mind.I take four color pens to my father’s room. And then, I help him put on lipstick with a red pen, paint his face with a yellow pen, draw the left eyebrow with a blue pen and draw the right with a green pen.Finally, I draw a very interesting makeup for dad. And then I go back to watch TV.About half an hour later, he shouts loudly when he is doing with his hair.I laugh loudly, because he is shocked by himself and he isn’t angry with me.

今天，我家发生了一件很有趣的事。今天是星期天，爸爸不用去上班。午饭过后，他去睡觉了，而我感觉有点无聊。突然，我的脑袋里有了一个主意。我拿了四支彩色笔到爸爸的房间去，然后用红色笔给他涂了口红，用黄色笔给他画脸蛋，用蓝色笔画了左边的眉毛，最后用绿色的笔画了右边的眉毛。终于，我给爸爸画了一个很有趣的妆，之后我就继续看电视了。大概半小时之后，爸爸梳头时大喊了一声。我大笑出来，因为他被自己吓到了，而且并没有生我的气。

This Saturday was my aunt's birthday, so my family went to a resterant to have dinner. We were quite happy. After dinner, we sent presents to my aunt.Then we lighted cancles, sang birthday songs, and finally ate the cake.
I think it was very interesting. 在这个周六的晚上是我阿姨的生日，我们全家去了餐馆给阿姨过生日，我们大家都很高兴。等吃完饭后我们都给阿姨送了生日礼物，等送完礼物后我们点蜡烛唱生日歌，然后吃了蛋糕！
我认为这件事很有趣！ Summer Vacation
I enjoy summer vacation very much. Because summer vacation is the longest vacation of the year. We have more than fifty days to rest. Though it is very hot, we can either go to swim or stay in the air-conditioned room . In the evening, I like to go shopping with my friends. We can eat many things in summer, such as ice creams, watermelons, grapes,so on.In summer, I always go on a trip with my parents. It's a good chance for us to visit some nice interesting places.

My summer vacation of this year was very enjoyable. I went to the countryside to spend my summer holidays. It is very beautiful there. There are green plants, clear rivers, lovely animals kind people. I spent two weeks helping my grandfather do some farm work there. I wrote down what happened in my diary every day.
　　Besides that, I helped the children in the neighbourhood with their lessons. I helped them read English improve their spoken English. Their parents thanked me for this.
　　今年的暑假生活非常愉快。我去农村过暑假。那儿非常美丽，有绿色的植物，清澈的小河，可爱的动物和善良的人们。在那里的两周中我帮爷爷干了些农活。每天我在日记中记下所发生的事情。
　　除了这些，我还帮助邻居家的孩子做功课。我帮他们读英语，使他们的口语有所提高。他们的父母为此很感激我。
