There are strengths and weaknesses to every culture, and our job is to decern between them, make use of the good ones, and discard the bad.

随着时代的进步和经济的发展，当今的网络社会已被各式各样的广告充斥着。广告是一门浓缩的、综合的、商业性的艺术。作为一种应用语言，广告语言已成了独特的文体形式，作为译者，在翻译过程中如何把握译文与原文之间平衡的一个尺度，那就显得至关重要了。
广告文作是由广告本身所负的目的所决定的，其翻译必须针对观众的喜好，有效的表达主题，准确真实的传播商品信息，增强其感染力，使其富有生活气息，雅俗共赏。广告，品种繁杂，形式多样。但是不管是何种形式，其目的与作用大抵相同，即提供信息、开拓市场,以图其广告语言打动顾客。广告的表现与一般的艺术不同，它是为了吸引人注意，激发人们的购买欲望，进而完成购买行为。所以它的语言风格独特，在词汇、语法、修辞上都各有其特点，在翻译上也有其讲究。在进行广告语言翻译的时候，考虑到语言文化的差异，在语篇层面上，我们尽可能地保留原文的构思。力求再现原文的创意美。在词句层面上，则不必拘泥原文的表达法式，而应该侧重传达其效果。因此，广告翻译的基本准则就是等效原则。
创意是广告创造的灵魂，创造性翻译就成为广告翻译的最高原则：忠实、通顺相比，创作出通俗易懂，容易记又能有力促销产品的广告显得更为重要。从某种程度上来讲，能实现广告主要目的的译文就是好译文。
